Sedation Dentistry in Burlington, VT

Does the thought of going to the dentist give you chills? Is your fear of the dentist preventing you from getting the dental care you need?

At Richmond Dental, we acknowledge that dental anxiety and dental phobia are very real concepts, and we want to make sure you are as comfortable as possible while you’re in our care so you can enjoy your experience with us. We offer multiple patient comfort amenities, including sedation dentistry.

What is sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry involves administering a safe sedative to a patient to decrease the amount of discomfort and anxiety they feel during a dental treatment. Sedation dentistry is used for many types of dental treatments, from simple, routine dental cleanings to more advanced procedures. Whether or not we use sedation for your case depends on your comfort level and how invasive the procedure is.

How does sedation dentistry work?

Based on your medical history and your comfort level, we may use different types of sedation. One type of sedation we offer is conscious sedation, in which you will still be able to interact and communicate with Dr. Novak during your treatment, but will feel more relaxed. On the other end of the spectrum is deep sedation. This type of sedation is commonly used for more invasive procedures like tooth extractions.

Sedation methods from our office are completely harmless and cause no side effects. Some patients are even able to drive themselves home after their treatment, although we recommend that patients bring someone along to drive them home after receiving higher levels of sedation.
