Mouth Guards in Richmond, VT

Mouth injuries often result in damaged or missing teeth, affecting your ability to bite, chew, and speak. For that reason, we always recommend that our more active patients and athletes wear a protective mouthguard.

What is a mouthguard?

Mouthguards are removable devices designed to protect the front teeth and mouth from injury. At Richmond Dental, in Richmond, VT, we can provide you with a custom mouthguard made to fit the contours of your teeth and mouth perfectly. This ensures maximum comfort, and will also allow you to easily breathe while it is in use.

Wearing and Caring for Your Mouth Guard in Richmond, VT

Taking care of your mouthguard is just as important as wearing it! Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind when managing your mouthguard:

  • Make sure to brush and floss your teeth before wearing your mouthguard.
  • Scrub your mouthguard with mild, soapy water and a toothbrush after every use.
  • Allow your mouthguard to air dry before storing it in a perforated box.
  • Clean your mouthguard before use by rinsing with water.
  • Heat can damage your mouthguard. Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or heated areas.
  • Avoid bending your mouthguard.
  • Never share or wear anyone else’s mouthguard.

Bite Splints

What is a bite splint?

Bite splints are removable mouthguards specifically designed to alleviate the pain and damage caused by nightly teeth clenching or grinding. They are also used to help treat temporomandibular disorders (TMD).

The inner layer of the bite splint is made with soft polyurethane that rests smoothly against the teeth and gums so you can wear it comfortably as you sleep. The outer layer is made with a harder polyester material that provides durability, so your teeth are protected from further damage.
